* * * Did you know that behind the Nepalese felt production is also a Finnish lady? A textiles teacher and writer Ms. Tupu Mentu. ' In the beginning of 1990 my aim was to teach 3 eager Nepalese girls to make felt, and also design some felt products for real production and sales. Nepal Association of Craft Producer's experienced dyer dyed the wool according to my wishes. We made few small series of felt slippers, seat warmes and pot holders, as well as toys. We did face some challenges, for sure: there were no shoe models available. ACP's handyman came up with the idea to mould models with concrete to plastic shoes found in the bazaar! During the rainy season it was extremely humid and the thick products dryed very slowly. During that summer I learned a great deal about problem solving and the importance of co-operation', tells Tupu. These felt slippers are still being sold - and now also in Werannas Warehouse!
